Chapter History

Since the early 1980's the Aldo Leopold Chapter has been active in stream rehabilitation projects as well as education and outreach eforts on behalf of our cold water resource. In the 1980's the chapter did an extensive rehabilitation project on Crystal Creek in Dodge County. In the 1990's the focus turned to Rocky Run and Lodi Spring Creek in Columbia County, with Chapter involvement in habitat improvement projects on those streams.

After a few years hiatus in activity, in 2003 the chapter re-energized and reorganized. Since then chapter work days have involved brush and log-jam removal on Lodi Spring Creek, Rocky Run Creek, and Rowan Creek. In 2007 the Chapter worked with the DNR, Columbia County LCD, The Friends Of Scenic Lodi Valley, and others to rehabilitate the Bohlman Branch of Lodi Spring Creek.

The Chapter also holds fly tying classes, participates in the Wisconsin Outdoor Education Expo for youth, and supports Project Green Teen.

In November 2008 the Fargen family of Bear Valley, Sauk County, contacted the Chapter about rehabilitating 2 miles of Bear Creek. This project is on-going, see here for full details.
